1996 - 2000

In 1996 the reunion of Pražský výběr takes place. This coincides with a re-release of the complete discography Výběr komplet - “The Complete Selection” and the band take on a large tour of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In Prague they sell out the largest sports stadium for the third time in their career. 

 

In 1996 he made a memorial concert of Stromboli with the original lineup at Štvanice.
A Czech TV documentary was created by director Peter Orozoviče entitled Stromboli o Stromboli - “Stromboli on Stromboli.”

 

After finishing the music for the psycho-thriller Holčičky na život a na smrt - “Girls on Life and Death”, Pavlicek composes music for the symphonic ballet Hádanky - “Riddles” for Laterna Magika. This composition for symphony orchestra is released in 1997 under the title Symfonické variace – “Symphonic Variations”.

 

Michal's song Jenom blázni se radujou -”Only Fools Rejoice”, with lyrics by Gabriel Osvald, for singer and guitarist Lenka Filipova becomes the big hit from her Svět se zblaznil CD.

 

In the middle of 1997, Pavlicek and Kocab complete the new Prazsky Vyber cd Běr, which gains a gold disc in it's first month. This recognition coincides with positive response from the critics, who place the album among the most interesting records of the nineties, and Prazsky Vyber signs an exclusive deal with Sony Music Bonton for three albums.

 

Pavlicek's creative activity reaches a peak in 1998. He composes symphonic music for the three part BBC television production of The Scarlet Pimpernel.

 

From September of this year Michal starts teaching at the the Prague Conservatory in the Department of Popular and Jazz Music.

 

In the spring of 1998 Prazsky Vyber release an interactive CD cdrom Tango Ropotámo together with a cd of remixes of popular hits from the band. As part of the promotional campaign for this project, Prazsky Vyber embark on a tour with guests Slalohm s quarem, Sruffo and Stephung which was successful concluded with two sell out shows in Prague's Lucerna. These concerts were recorded by Czech Television.

 

In January 1999 the cd of The Scarlet Pimpernel is released by the BBC with Michal's incidental music from the series of the same name and this historic trilogy is broadcast in more than twenty countries world over.


In the second half of this year is devoted to music for the performance of Černí býci a Vánoční vzpomínka for Divadlo na Celetne under the firection of Jakub Spalek.

 

In December the Prazsky Vyber cd Habaděj is released, featuring unique cuts from the archives of the early days of the band.

 

On the 10th May 2000 the premier of the České jaro - “Czech Spring” event takes place in Prague's Obecny Dum, accompanied by the Prague FOK Symphony Orchestra presenting by M. Pavlicek performed by K. Strihavka and Bara Basikova.

 

During May and June Michal finishes work on music for the cdrom Praha stroj času - “Prague, Time Machine” and music for the computer game Original War for the British publishers Virgin.

 

At the end of August a concert of Prazsky Vyber, BSP and Big Heads in Chicago, at a festival of Czechoslovakian bands.


From October Michal records music with the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra for the next episodes of The Scarlet Pimpernel II for the BBC, for which he is nominated for a prize in the city of Birmingham a the television and film festival there, which takes place on 23rd November.
 

Director Karel Smyczek completes his documentary for Ceska televize Michal Pavlíček tentokrát bez kytary - “Michal Pavlicek This Time Without the Guitar.”


During 2000 he writes music for the television films Znásilnění - “Rape”, directed by Petr Slavik, Politik a herečka - “The Politician and the Actress” directed by Juraj Herz and Svatí a andělé - “Saints and Angels” directed by Viktor Polesny
